Have you given thought to what your Top 10 Priorities are for this year yet? Have you thought about how you will go about reaching those goals? It’s not as hard as you think, just follow the two simple steps below and you will already be ahead of most people. Most people stay where they are at because of inaction and laziness. The two steps below shouldn’t take more than 45 minutes of your time; 45 minutes to determine what your 10 most important priorities are that will have a lasting impact on your life!
1. A Practical Way to Determine Your Priorities
Try to think clearly about what your most important priorities are, document these priorities, and use the document as a daily, weekly, and quarterly guide for your planning and achievement. The best way to start is with a blank sheet of paper. Ask yourself this question: “Between now and the end of this fiscal year, what most deserves my best attention?” Give yourself a few minutes to write everything down that comes to mind - don’t censor yourself, just write it all down so that you can visually see it afterwards.

Following up on the last post, when you think of priorities for the rest of this year, what is most deserving of your attention? There are literally hundreds of things that could take up your time over the next twelve months, but they are not all of equal importance. 10 of these are more important than all of the others. Knowing what these are early in the year and having them clearly in your mind right now, can make a huge difference in your progress (ahem, losing that BeerBelly) and sense of satisfaction when you get to the end of the next year. Your top 10 priorities will provide a continual sense of daily meaning, purpose and guidance for the rest of the year. Make this year count, make this the year that you are able to plan out each week and each day on the basis of what will have the greatest impact for the rest of the year and possibly your life.
In the next post, we will outline some simple but effective steps to go about identifying what your priorities are and how to stick to them throughout the year.

I finally got a workout buddy! My old college buddy, Jimmy, use to work out with me 3 times a week has recently started working at the same company as me and joined up with Lifetime Fitness as well. I made a pledge to him that I’d work out with him just as hard as we use to back in college. I didn’t think Jimmy would actually sign up for the membership because it’s $80 a month but he did and so now I have to keep my promise. We were discussing which days to go and somehow he convinced me to do Mondays through Thursdays after work. It’s going to be a pretty aggressive regimen but I think with Jimmy there to motivate and trash talk, I’ll be able to do this. Plus I kind of need to do this because I’ll be going to China in mid November for the wedding.
I don’t know if I’ll be able to do this by mid November, but I’m going to try and get to 180 pounds. I currently weight 195 pounds.

While I’m struggling to get back in a regular workout routine, I thought I would try and come up with some ways that would help. One of the things I do to get myself to become more active and exercising on a regular basis is to start writing more on the blog.
Here are a list of things one can do to get in the groove again:
1. Start from the beginning, again. Determine your goal, a way to reach it, and commit yourself.
2. Focus on one goal only and stick to it. Since it’s summer, I’ll focus on losing some fat around the mid section.
3. Commit yourself to achieving this goal for 30 days. If you can perform a routine function for 30 days, it becomes much easier to continue.
4. Do your exercises at the same time everyday. This will reinforce the routine aspect and trains your body to know when it needs to work out.
5. Start small, lighter weights, fewer reps, shorter runs, etc. Starting slowly is also easier for the body to adapt and increases your chances of sticking the program.

I signed up with traineo a couple weeks ago and I’ve only been to the gym once. That’s why if you look at my profile, my diet has a lot of data points but my training and weight remains unchanged, hey a guy has to eat still.
Anyways, traineo is pretty neat. It’s a new web community focused around the ideas of motivation, support and accountability. Not only does it allow you to keep track of your progress but you can also enlist those closest to you and care about your beer belly to help motivate you and provide positive support.
If you’re already a member, join my Beer Belly Challenge traineo group.
(As of today, I have 19 lbs to lose in 108 days to reach my goal, times a tickin’!)
