This story is just amazing. 101 year-old man training for the marathon. Buster has already done a half marathon before and now he’s planning on becoming the world’s oldest man to run a full marathon. The next time you’re at work or home and you’re feeling a little lazy about getting to the gym, think about Buster the 101 year-old marathon runner who drinks beer, smokes cigarettes, and can run longer than you! Sure inspires me to get off my ass.

Setting and Determining Your Priorities Part II

Goals, Inspiration 1 Comment »

thankfull.jpgHave you given thought to what your Top 10 Priorities are for this year yet? Have you thought about how you will go about reaching those goals? It’s not as hard as you think, just follow the two simple steps below and you will already be ahead of most people. Most people stay where they are at because of inaction and laziness. The two steps below shouldn’t take more than 45 minutes of your time; 45 minutes to determine what your 10 most important priorities are that will have a lasting impact on your life!

1. A Practical Way to Determine Your Priorities
Try to think clearly about what your most important priorities are, document these priorities, and use the document as a daily, weekly, and quarterly guide for your planning and achievement. The best way to start is with a blank sheet of paper. Ask yourself this question: “Between now and the end of this fiscal year, what most deserves my best attention?” Give yourself a few minutes to write everything down that comes to mind - don’t censor yourself, just write it all down so that you can visually see it afterwards.

Setting and Determining Your Priorities Part I

Goals, Inspiration No Comments »

yesterday_tomorrow_today.jpgFollowing up on the last post, when you think of priorities for the rest of this year, what is most deserving of your attention? There are literally hundreds of things that could take up your time over the next twelve months, but they are not all of equal importance. 10 of these are more important than all of the others. Knowing what these are early in the year and having them clearly in your mind right now, can make a huge difference in your progress (ahem, losing that BeerBelly) and sense of satisfaction when you get to the end of the next year. Your top 10 priorities will provide a continual sense of daily meaning, purpose and guidance for the rest of the year. Make this year count, make this the year that you are able to plan out each week and each day on the basis of what will have the greatest impact for the rest of the year and possibly your life.

In the next post, we will outline some simple but effective steps to go about identifying what your priorities are and how to stick to them throughout the year.

5 Tips to Losing that Beer Belly

Inspiration 1 Comment »

It’s the start of a brand new year and I’m sure that weight-loss is in a lot of people’s New Year resolution. But how many of us actually stick to this goal and achieve the results that we want by the end of the year? My guess is that it is a small percentage of us that actually stick to it and achieve our results. From my experience, I believe that the majority of us need some sort of support system when taking on a difficult challenge. It makes a difficult task far easier to tackle when you have someone or a group on your side rather than doing it alone and losing that Beer Belly is no exception. Before you psyche yourself up and daydream about losing 50 lbs, 100 lbs, or 200 lbs this year, think about the steps you need to take to help you get there. Below are the Top 5 things that will help you stick to your resolution this year and hopefully reach your target come 2009! Make copies of it, put one on your wall above your desk, one at work and one in your wallet so you can see it everyday. That way you’ll be reminded if you’re on track throughout the year of making your goal and what you need to change in order to reach it.

Monks can do it, so can you

Inspiration 1 Comment »

We’ve rolled into the new year and I bet a lot of your new year resolutions include something about getting in better shape or living a healthier lifestyle, I know mine does. But how come every year it seems like most of us fail to meet these goals we’ve set for ourselves? Perhaps the goals we set are too far out there? Maybe setting difficult or seemingly impossible goals will help. I read about these monks in Japan who are some of the best but unknown endurance runners in the world. These monks run a marathon that is 8 years long and equivalent to the distance around the equator.

The first three years the monk will run approximately 18 miles a day along narrow paths in the mountains in nothing more than a pair if straw sandals and a robe (sorry, no state of the art running shoes or other gear). He must do this up and down trek along the mountains paths for 100 straight days during each of the three years. He starts at 1:30 in the morning each day and he needs to return by 9:00 AM because he is not excused from his regular daily chores which he also must complete each day.

In years four and five, the monk will travel the same narrow mountain path in the early morning hours, but increase the time to 200 straight days no matter what the weather - come rain, come snow, even come hurricanes.
