I’ve lost almost 10 pounds in 4 weeks! It seems like every time I step on the scale at the gym, I’ve lost another pound, what a great feeling! I think this all started 4 weeks ago when I decided that I would try to find something fun and athletic to help me get in shape.
It’s not that I absolutely dread the treadmill, but I noticed that I couldn’t go as fast or as long on the treadmill and I wasn’t improving very fast. So my strategy was to start playing a sport that would force my body to adapt to more rigorous activities and therefore would strengthen myself for running harder. I started playing racquetball about once or twice a week and it has really helped my body to go that extra mile and run faster on the treadmill, which is allowing me to burn up more calories! So combined with my increase in treadmill running, weekly racquetball sessions, and being more conscious about how I eat, I’ve managed to steadily reduce my weight.

I finally got a workout buddy! My old college buddy, Jimmy, use to work out with me 3 times a week has recently started working at the same company as me and joined up with Lifetime Fitness as well. I made a pledge to him that I’d work out with him just as hard as we use to back in college. I didn’t think Jimmy would actually sign up for the membership because it’s $80 a month but he did and so now I have to keep my promise. We were discussing which days to go and somehow he convinced me to do Mondays through Thursdays after work. It’s going to be a pretty aggressive regimen but I think with Jimmy there to motivate and trash talk, I’ll be able to do this. Plus I kind of need to do this because I’ll be going to China in mid November for the wedding.
I don’t know if I’ll be able to do this by mid November, but I’m going to try and get to 180 pounds. I currently weight 195 pounds.

I finally dragged my lazy butt into the gym today. Ever since going on my business trip to Thailand 3 weeks ago, I’ve only managed to work out once. I did my usual routine today, except it was scaled down quite a bit since I got tired so quick. Did a 35 minute session on the elliptical machine and lifted some weights (I don’t even want to remind myself how weak I felt). Surprisingly, after being gone for 3 weeks, my LifeTime Fitness club hasn’t changed much. It’s the same crowd as before and it’s good to see them so dedicated. The only difference I noticed today was that one of the ladies that I see quite often seemed to have gone from a size A to a size D, it was quite the distraction today. So the good news is that I’m back but the bad news is that I gained 4 pounds! Time to start getting back in the groove, first step is self-motivation.

Yeah I lost 2 pounds! It’s been 30 days since I’ve signed up with Traineo and I’ve lost a total of 3 pounds. My goal is to lose 20 pounds in 90 days.
I missed my lunch hour workout today due to an unforeseen 1 o’clock meeting. Lesson learned today is to actually schedule my workout sessions in my Outlook Calendar so people won’t schedule conflicting meetings.
I pretty much skipped lunch today. Haven’t had much in my stomach the whole day except for a small pack of Vietnamese instant noodles for breakfast, some crackers before lunch, and a glazed donut and cup of coffee in the afternoon. I guess this is a pretty bad diet, but at least it’s low in calories compared to going to Chipotle and having a huge burrito.

I went to an after-Thanksgiving house party over the weekend. As I stood there eating some Turducken and drinking a bottle of Corona, a friend asked “Hey Billy, how’s that Beer Belly Blog going?” I looked down at my midsection and replied, “It’s getting bigger.” Yes my beer belly is getting bigger and I’ve been slacking off. Ever since I got back from my business trip in Vegas and my wife’s schedule change, we haven’t used our Lifetime Fitness membership that we pay $100 a month for. So enough excuses, I need to schedule my workouts. If I don’t schedule them, I’ll never hit the gym until my beer belly is bigger than any blogger’s belly.
