walking01.jpgRemember that to lose weight, you need to burn off more calories than you take in. Any amount of exercise you do will help you in losing that Beer Belly. Don’t think you have time? Nonsense, there’s always time to sneak in a walk here and there, you just need to modify your daily habits and activities a little. Exercise will help your cells absorb glucose that would otherwise would stay in your bloodstream. Below are 10 ideas to get more walk in throughout the day.

1. Turn off the TV, game console, and get off the computer. Go for a 30 minute walk instead, especially if that episode is a rerun or you’re just aimlessly surfing the web.

2. Walk while you talk. Invite a friend for a walk and talk or walk around when you’re talking on the phone.

3. Walk to places you’re going to. Leave the car keys and walk the next time you need to run an errand that’s within walking distance; walk to the restaurant where you’re eating lunch; walk to the nearest mailbox or post-office.

4. Opt for the stairs instead of the elevators. In the amount of time it takes to wait for the elevator, you’ll already be there by taking the stairs, plus you’re burning calories – what could be better?

5. Watch TV. Buy a treadmill and run, jog, or walk while you watch your favorite TV shows.

6. Park farther away. In the time it takes for you to look for a closer parking spot, you would already be inside the store. Plus, the walk isn’t that much further.

7. Clean the house. There’s no doubt about it: Housework is work. But who doesn’t enjoy the results? To get even more exercise mileage, alternate between upstairs and downstairs chores (instead of cleaning one floor at a time) to take advantage of the stairs — your home’s best calorie burner.

8. Walk & shop. Enjoy going to the mall? Then make a work-out out of it and walk a few laps around the mall – but watch that credit limit!

9. Use your lunch break. If you have time, eat your lunch and go for a walk outside or inside the building if it’s cold out. You’ll also be less tempted to grab a vending machine snack later.

10. Listen to books on CD. Listen to your books on CD or mp3 while you walk around your house, lake, or trail. You just might end up walking a little longer just to finish that chapter of the audio book.
